Art by a beachcomber About me…. My name is Titus Sharp, I have from an early age lived at Poppit Sands in Pembrokeshire. Growing up on the beach and through gaining an interest in art at secondary school it wasn’t long before I combined the two passions. For a number of years I have painted Cardigan Island repetitively to improve my painting and also as a source of enjoyment for myself as well as others. |

For a couple of years, I worked as a beach lifeguard. Standing on the beach for long periods gave me the chance to experience and see many different skies and light effects falling on the sea and island. Painting the sea, sky and coast was and still is a great anti-dote to being at work and allows me to switch off. I find the process of painting immensely calming, and I hope this is transferred into my artwork for others to feel. In addition to painting I have created a number of sand casts of the beach at Poppit. I have always thought that sand ripples are beautiful as they are natures’ natural pattern and they have visual soothing qualities similar to the sound of waves resonating around the shoreline. My other interests include a love of body-surfing and surf-swimming. Picnic-ing and a game of Frisbee on the beach are favourite pastimes as well. I’m now residing in Cardiff and continue to paint. Visiting the beach at Poppit regularly now provides me with fresh motivation and inspiration to continue painting . Ti |
